Our aim is to offer an introduction to Mantra Meditation which is facilitated in a peer group, through guided meditation from the awakening network. Our group is for people who have a lived experience of mental illness. Mantra meditation is the process of quieting and focussing the mind using a sound, word or phrase recited either aloud or silently. We welcome you to come along to our peer support group and try this method of meditation with us.

Do you have a brother or sister living with mental illness? The Bristol Siblings Group is here to help you. We offer a space in Bristol where you can meet other siblings with a brother or sister with mental health issues, share your experiences and the emotions you feel as a sibling, access information on mental health issues and sibling support and realise you are not alone. The group is very friendly and informal, and you’ll have the chance to offload, and talk about whatever’s going on for you and your family. It’s up to you how much or little you talk, but you can feel sure there will people at the group who want to listen and connect with you. We sometimes organise speakers to share information on relevant topics. Depending on what people want, we can do other things with the group as well, such as fundraising or organising events to help raise awareness of mental health issues. It’s up to all of us what direction we’d like the group to take, so please let us know your ideas. The group is open to anyone aged 18 and over with a brother or sister living with mental illness. We look forward to meeting you.

Put on your wellies and join us. Come and enjoy the countryside, take a walk and nurture your wellbeing. We meet to provide friendship, support and company, which includes listening and helping each other keep active. We explore places in and around Bristol, with walks typically accessible from the city area. But if we go further afield, we use public transport together. We have been as far west as Cardiff and as far north as Worcester in the past. We have also recently taken on a female walk leader. Get in contact for more details and an initial chat. All are welcome for any of our walks. We look forward to meeting you.

South West Carers is a peer support group for carers who face the challenge of loving and caring for someone who has borderline personality disorder (BPD). We meet once a fortnight in Bristol and offer a safe and friendly space to share worries, experiences and our hopes for the future. We work together to access guidance and practical advice from experts in BPD and try to raise the profile of this distressing mental disorder. Please call us for an initial chat. Group members say that they feel less alone and really value being able to talk to people who understand the complexities of caring for someone with BPD.

Our carers group offers support for people whose friends or family members have been affected by mental illness. We have been meeting regularly for several years but always welcome new members. We provide mutual support and information through an understanding of shared experiences, and the group is facilitated by a member of Rethink staff, in partnership with Avon & Wiltshire mental health staff. We invite occasional speakers to meetings, which are relaxed and therapeutic, and support is offered in a safe and non-judgemental manner. All are welcome. For further information and an initial chat, please call 07967 811146.

The Rethink Draper Dementia Fund has been created to distribute a legacy from Penny Draper who was passionate about supporting people living with dementia in North Somerset. It has been set up in conjunction with Portishead Dementia Action Alliance. The fund is available for groups supporting people living with dementia in North Somerset. Unfortunately, we cannot pay money to individuals or cover the cost of wages but if you think your group would benefit from a small grant then please get in touch and fill in one of our application forms. Our steering committee will consider all applications every 3 months, starting in September 2019. For more information and an application form please contact us.

We are a group that has been established for many years and meet for mutual support and the sharing of information. We are all carers of people with lived experience of mental illness and can offer help and understanding to those in a similar position. We like to fundraise too, whether by holding a collection at Tesco or running a stall at Drayton Fair. We organised a very successful exhibition at Ilminster Art centre in 2018, which aimed to challenge preconceptions surrounding mental illness and highlight the need for support. Our bi-monthly meetings are informal and usually take place in a local café. We welcome all newcomers with open arms.

Do you care for someone with a mental illness and want to talk to someone in a similar situation? We meet once a month for two hours on a Thursday evening to share experiences and learn more about mental illness and navigating the health and social care systems. Occasionally, we invite a speaker to talk at a meeting, for example, we recently heard from an expert on the complexities of medication. Please come along and join us. You will find us ready to listen and share experiences in a safe and confidential space. Our aim is to encourage conversation and help build contacts and friendships. We know how hard it can be to make that first step, so please contact our group coordinators to learn more about us.
