How are eating disorders treated?

Eating disorders are treatable. Recovery is possible with the right support, including therapy, medication, and medical care.

A tailored approach

Eating disorders are complex. Treatment is not one-size-fits-all. Plans are shaped around each person’s needs.

Talking therapies

Psychological therapies, like cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), help people understand and change their relationship with food and themselves.

Medication

Some people may be offered medication to manage symptoms or other mental health conditions alongside their eating disorder.

Family therapy

Involving family can be especially helpful for younger people. It supports recovery and helps address any family issues that may play a part.

Medical monitoring

Eating disorders can cause serious health problems. Regular medical checks and support are often needed during recovery.
