    About the role

Field based | Across Gloucestershire | Weekday working, flexible up to 8pm

At Rethink Mental Illness, we believe that no one should face mental illness or bereavement alone. Our Gloucestershire Support After Suicide Service is here to offer hope, connection and compassionate support to people affected by suicide — and we’re looking for someone who shares our passion.

If you have lived experience of bereavement by suicide, the resilience to walk alongside people at their most difficult moments, and the drive to make a real difference in your community, we’d love to hear from you.

    Your impact

As a Suicide Bereavement Worker, you'll be a vital part of our peer led service — supporting adults across Gloucestershire who have been bereaved or affected by suicide. Every day, you’ll help people regain their footing, rebuild resilience and find a way forward.

    You will

    • Provide compassionate, person centred 1:1 and group support
    • Offer practical help around inquests, funeral arrangements, agencies, media and more
    • Deliver information, tools and resources to support emotional wellbeing
    • Advocate for people using the service, and liaise with professionals on their behalf
    • Build strong links with the community and help raise awareness
    • Keep clear, safe, GDPR compliant records and contribute to service reporting
    • Work collaboratively as part of a field based, flexible, supportive team
    • Provide Virtual and Face-to-Face support

    What you bring

You’re someone who is grounded, empathetic and able to hold space for others — even when conversations are tough. You understand the unique needs of people bereaved by suicide, and you know how to balance compassion with professional boundaries.

    You will have

    • Experience providing support in suicide bereavement, bereavement & loss, mental health or carers’ services
    • Lived experience of bereavement by suicide (with at least 3 years elapsed for close personal experience)
    • Resilience, self awareness and the ability to cope with highly emotional situations
    • Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with a range of professionals
    • Excellent organisation, time management and IT skills
    • NVQ3 / QCF Diploma in Health & Social Care (or related field)
    • A Full Driving License with your own Transport

You may also bring experience in areas like trauma informed practice, training delivery, advocacy, suicide prevention training (e.g. ASIST, PABBS), or supporting people who self harm — but these are not essential.

    Ready to make a difference?

If you’re driven by compassion, guided by lived experience, and ready to help people navigate some of life’s most difficult moments — we’d love to welcome you to our team.
