A team of 37 runners tackled the London Landmarks Half Marathon on Sunday 7 April and raised a whopping £22,828 for Rethink Mental Illness.

Our cheering squad were in awe watching them put their body through such a challenge to help us create a society that truly cares for people experiencing mental illness.

“I am passionate about raising awareness and helping people who have affected by mental illness,” said Lindsay, a runner for Team Rethink Mental Illness.

“Running the London Landmarks half marathon was an amazing experience. Seeing all the crowds, hearing the live music and passing the impressive landmarks at each step of the way was incredible.

“I chose to fundraise for Rethink Mental Illness because I really identify with their goal of improving the lives of everyone affected by mental illness.

“It was a real challenge for me to make it to the end but the relief and pride I felt when I crossed the line was worth it!”

The London Landmarks Half Marathon is a unique event. The route takes runners through iconic landmarks of the capital like Big Ben, St Paul’s Cathedral, Nelson’s Column, the Gherkin, the Shard, the Tower of London and the London Eye.

Kai, another one of our runners, said: "I wasn't sure how I'd find the run on the day as I'd never ran a half marathon before but the support from the team and the other people watching really helped me through it. It's an event that I'll always remember!

"As a student social worker, mental illness is often at the forefront of the lives of the people I work with. I wanted to fundraise for Rethink Mental Illness as their work is invaluable in supporting people living with mental illness, and this is work that I have seen first-hand."

Hannah Nutt from the Rethink Mental Illness events team said: “Such a brilliant day cheering our runners along. Every one of them has put in so much hard work with fundraising and training in preparation for the big day, so sending you a big thank you from us all!”

A huge congratulations to everyone who took part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon this year.
