What eating disorders are there?

There are several types of eating disorders, each with its own signs and challenges. Here’s what you need to know.

Anorexia nervosa

People affected by anorexia nervosa limit how much they eat and drink. They may have a distorted view of their body and a strong fear of gaining weight.

Bulimia nervosa

Bulimia nervosa involves cycles of binge eating followed by actions to prevent weight gain, such as making yourself sick, using laxatives or exercising too much.

Binge eating disorder

Binge eating disorder is marked by regularly eating large amounts of food in one go, often feeling out of control during these episodes.

Other specified feeding and eating disorders (OSFED)

OSFED covers eating disorders that don’t fit the above categories but still involve unhealthy relationships with food and eating patterns.
