What causes hearing voices in your head?
Hearing voices, or auditory hallucinations, can happen for many reasons. It’s not always a sign of mental illness, and many people experience it at some point in their lives.
Understanding hearing voices
Hearing voices means hearing sounds or speech that others do not. This experience is more common than you might think, and it can affect anyone. The voices can be positive, negative, or neutral, and everyone’s experience is unique.
Common causes of hearing voices
1. Stress or anxiety
High levels of stress or anxiety can sometimes trigger voices. When life feels overwhelming, your mind may react in unexpected ways.
2. Traumatic experiences
Past trauma, especially if it’s unresolved, can lead to hearing voices. This is your mind’s way of processing difficult memories.
3. Sleep deprivation
Not getting enough sleep can cause you to hear things that aren’t there. Your brain needs rest to function properly.
4. Physical health conditions
Some medical issues, such as infections or neurological conditions, may cause auditory hallucinations.
5. Mental health conditions
Hearing voices can be a symptom of conditions like psychosis or schizophrenia. However, not everyone who hears voices has a mental health disorder.

Nine years ago, I was diagnosed with schizophrenia and started hearing voices while working in a factory. Once the voices started to manifest, I couldn't talk to anyone. I couldn't work, I couldn't enjoy my hobbies, and I had to stay in bed day and night... I have observed that schizophrenia, accompanied by unusual experiences and psychosis, can fool and hypnotise you.
