Our Braintree art group has been running since 2008 and offers people with lived experience of mental illness the chance to come together in Braintree to write, paint and draw. Our friendly group offers a safe space for people to share their experiences, tips and knowledge, as well as work together to fundraise and campaign together in their local community. New members are warmly welcomed.

Our group is coordinated by volunteers with lived experience of mental illness, who aim to empower members and promote and improve the mental wellbeing of people living in Southend-on-Sea and its surrounding areas. We offer friendly support for people with mental illness, whether it's diagnosed or not, and carers are welcome too. We meet for two hours on the second Wednesday of every month, to talk, socialise and do various activities in a safe space. These activities include art and crafts, writing, games, quizzes, listening to guest speakers, and much more. We meet for two hours on the last Saturday of every month (except December) to play ping pong, crazy golf, tumble tower blocks, board games, dominoes, cards and we can sometimes use the garden for outdoor activities. Refreshments of tea, coffee and biscuits are provided.

We are visited by speakers, have a large amount of local knowledge and experience, and constantly welcome new carers to the group. We provide a telephone support line (07783 267013) run by carers for other carers. Group members are also involved in making sure the voices of carers are heard by local NHS and social care services.

The Mind Body Medicine Yoga Group aims to support those bereaved by the suicide of a loved one through yoga, as they work through their journey after this experience. The sessions are facilitated by a qualified yoga teacher with a specialism in yoga for mental wellbeing and who has lived experience of the loss of a loved one by suicide. The group meets once a meet to practice yoga together. We offer a weekly session in a studio in Highgate which is also available via zoom link for those not able to make it to the venue. Yoga can support our bodies and our minds as we navigate our pathway to live with our changed selves after loss by suicide. Our group is open to all levels.
