Rethink Advocacy provides services under the Care Act, Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and in other situations where advocacy is not a legal right.

Rethink Advocacy provides services under the Care Act, Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and in other situations where advocacy is not a legal right. We support people of all ages, including those who live with mental illness and learning, physical and sensory disabilities.

Advocacy is having someone by your side, and on your side, when you want to be more involved in decisions about your care, treatment and living arrangements. An advocate can talk through the situation you’re currently in and the options open to you. They can help you decide what you want and then communicate it to people. This is particularly useful if it’s difficult to understand things or to speak up and be heard.

This hub covers the following areas:

  • Essex

Our advocates can:

  • Listen to you and try to understand your point of view
  • Work with you to understand your situation and what may be stopping you from getting what you want
  • Offer you support to tell other people what you want or introduce you to others who may be able to help
  • Help you understand what choices you have and what the consequences of those choices might be
  • Help you to have control over your life and will take up issues on your behalf if you want them to
  • Support you to self-advocate
