Meet Kayte and Lucy, two of our friendly and dedicated support workers at Sheffield Crisis House. They share what their roles involve, and why they love their work so much.
Sheffield Crisis House is a six-bed short-stay crisis accommodation service that aims to help individuals facing crisis point and give them the tools they need to return to their communities safely. Referrals might come from commissioners for individuals who need immediate support, or from inpatients who need some help transitioning back into the community.
The service itself provides 24/7 emotional support, with that support being tailored to each individual. A holistic approach is so important, ensuring all aspects of life are considered and feel manageable. This might look like support with safety planning, risk management, learning distraction or coping techniques, or simply joining in activities and getting to know each other.
Kayte and Lucy were both very quick to say how much they love their roles, and how rewarding they are:
-
People in crisis may not show gratitude right away, but when they do, it’s so genuine. It’s fantastic to know you’ve made a difference — and helping them helps us too!
Their efforts certainly don’t go unnoticed, and Lucy received this lovely piece of feedback from someone after their stay:
-
Thank you for everything you have ever done for me, you have saved my life and given me hope. Thank you for not giving up on me.
Thank you to Kayte and Lucy for sharing what makes their roles so special, and to all the support workers making a difference every day.
