Sheffield OCD Support Group
Open to: People with Mental Illness
Sheffield
We meet on the third Tuesday of each month between 2.00pm - 4.00pm
Group Coordinator: Jonathan Clitheroe ---- Group Co-facilitator: Julian Hall
Our Sheffield OCD Support Group offers people affected by OCD, body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) and hoarding disorder the chance to come together in a relaxed and welcoming space. Our friendly group meets once a month to share experiences, coping strategies and information, and to offer support and encouragement to each other. We never put pressure on anyone to share how they’re doing. We just offer the space for people to do so freely and without judgement, so our members feel less isolated and more supported. We have longstanding links with OCD Action, which helps us keep up-to-date with additional help and support that's available to our members, including events focusing on OCD. New members are always welcome - no referral is required but we do ask that if possible you email us before attending.

We aim to combine traditional peer support with physical activity to improve the mental wellbeing of our members. The group will go on a different walk each week, around the local area to improve fitness and confidence and build friendships. Our longest walk never exceeds one hour, fifteen minutes, one way, level ground. Where possible we always like to find a café or similar for light refreshments. We appreciate that public transport can sometimes be late. If you are planning to come along, please message us so that we know to wait for you.

Welcome to Rethink Mental Illness Manchester support group. This group and our meetings are managed and led by volunteers and is supported by and registered with Rethink Mental Illness. Our group aims to provide an opportunity for people who experience mental health difficulties to come together for mutual peer support. We run a general support peer support meeting on Thursday evenings, for anyone experiencing difficulties with mental health regardless of whether they have a diagnosis or are involved with mental health services, as well as families and carers. All our meetings include and are open to their families and carers. As a peer-led group, we find that one of our most valuable offers is that members are able to feel comfortable talking about their experiences with others in a similar situation. Members often share suggestions based on how they overcame similar challenges in their lives, though sometimes just the opportunity to talk can help reduce feelings of isolation. As well as weekly meetings we also hold regular social events and outings. If you wish to find out more, or want to sign up to our newsletter, please do send us an email or message.

The East Lancs Activity Group runs a wide array of activities across Burnley for people living with mental illness. We believe that by providing sports and social activities we can help to improve the mental and physical wellbeing of members and reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness. Our group activities vary from going to the gym to visiting the local cinema to see the latest Hollywood blockbuster. We meet on the first Friday of each month to plan our activities for the following month, so all our members can help decide what we do. The group is entirely peer led, and is run by Greg and a group of volunteers who each have a personal experience of mental illness. An important part of what we do is providing peer support to each other and sharing our experiences with others facing similar challenges. If you’re interested in finding out more, please get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you. Meets in various locations across Burnley.

Our registered Group in Liverpool was established by people who had personal experiences of mental health and came together to challenge the stigma around mental health. Through our work with the Time to Change campaign, we realised that there wasn't a place for people to come together, share our knowledge of what support was available to each other, and give and receive mutual peer support. We established the Liverpool group to provide this opportunity, so the more knowledgeable members could share their stories and journeys through navigating the mental health system in Liverpool. We know that when people first come in contact with the mental health field, it can be confusing to know what support is available in the community and which is appropriate for your needs at that time. One of our aims is to provide clear information about what support you can access in the region. We also provide an opportunity to share their own stories about how mental health has affected them, providing a non-judgmental listening ear from people who have been through similar challenges. Coordinators Garrick and Jeanette have their personal experiences of mental health, and supporting other people with their own recovery journey of mental health. We strive to provide a safe and supportive environment where people can talk openly about mental health We currently provide information and signposting services at Liverpool Central Library on Thursday afternoons and Friday mornings. We have a desk on the first floor of the library (near the reference section) where people can come to speak with one of our volunteers, Garrick and Jeanette. We welcome opportunities to listen to your personal experiences of mental health (and people are free to share as little or as much as they like) and share our knowledge of what services are available in the Liverpool area that might be able to provide further support. We are also happy to share our own experiences and what's worked for us (in the knowledge that what's worked for us might not work for everyone). Our desk is located in a public section of the library, so other people may be sitting at a nearby table (especially during busy times). If you need a more confidential space to speak, please let us know before so we can see if we can arrange a more private area to speak (we might not be able to arrange this on the day).
