Transgender mental health - Practical tips
This information looks at how transgender people can maintain their mental health. It is for transgender people in England who are 18 or over. It is also for their loved ones and carers, and anyone interested in this subject.
How can I look after my mental health as a member of the trans community?
If you identify as transgender, you are more likely to report long-term mental health conditions compared to cisgender people.
In a study published in the Lancet Public Health Journal, the figures for reporting a long-term mental health condition were:
- About 1 in 2 for transgender people, and
- About 1 in 5 for cisgender people.
