Mental Health Training in Camden
Camden Council is committed to promoting awareness, developing understanding and challenging stigma associated with mental ill health and promoting good mental health for all.
To help achieve this, the council has partnered with Rethink Mental Illness to provide high quality, evidence-based mental health awareness and suicide prevention training courses for adults in Camden.
The council has funded the training for eligible organisations, community groups and individuals who live, work, volunteer, or study in Camden.
What are the free courses?
- Mental Health Awareness
- Mental Health for Managers
- Mental Health First Aid - (Adult or Youth)
- Mental Health First Aid Refresher
- Suicide Awareness

You will also find brief outlines of these courses below.
Our courses are either ‘Closed’ i.e. private to your specific organisation or community group, or ‘Open’ where individuals can sign up.
For 'Closed' courses, you would need to recruit a minimum of 15 delegates to attend and provide a venue with appropriate equipment to support delivery including access to wifi, use of a projector, flipchart and pens. Please check availability for closed courses by emailing workplacementalhealth@rethink.org
Please note: for all those who register for our training courses, we kindly ask that you make every effort to attend. This ensures no costs are incurred and any spare places can be given to those on our waiting lists.

Training for individuals
Our training courses equip you with the knowledge and skills to better understand mental health and mental illness, to have good quality conversations with your friends, family members, or work colleagues about mental health, and to feel more confident supporting others who may be experiencing poor mental health, particularly in the workplace.
The following training is free to individuals who either:
- Live in Camden
- Study in Camden
- Work public-facing roles in Camden within the statutory, voluntary or community sectors

Our online Mental Health Awareness course runs for 3.5hrs and is suitable for any role in an organisation. Modules covered include:

Mental Health for Managers
Our online Mental Health for Managers course runs for 3.5hrs and is suitable for all managers. Modules covered include:

Suicide Awareness
Our online or in-person Suicide Awareness training runs for 4hrs and is suitable for those working in Camden within the statutory, voluntary and community sectors with public-facing roles. Modules covered include:
- Looking after yourself
- Suicide and stigma
- Spotting the signs
- Having a safe conversation

Mental Health First Aid
This course will teach you practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues and gain confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress. On successful completion you will be a certified Mental Health First Aider for 3yrs. Please note that all sessions need to be attended in full and in order. Any partial or completely missed sessions would mean you can no longer complete the course.
- Our online Adult and Youth Mental Health First Aid courses are held over 4 half days across 2 weeks scheduled as mornings 09:30-13:00 or afternoons 13:00-16:30.
- Our in-person Adult and Youth Mental Health First Aid courses are held over 2 full days 9-5pm.

Mental Health First Aid Refresher
This half day course runs for 4hrs and is for those who have previously completed full Mental Health First Aid training and are within 6 months of their certificate expiry date. On successful completion of the refresher training, you will be certified for a further 3yrs.
