Changes to the Mental Health Act - How will you update your advice and information?
The Mental Health Bill is currently going through Parliament.
The Bill is a welcome step towards modernising the Mental Health Act. The Act is the law that says you can be detained in hospital for assessment or treatment. This is if your mental health is very bad and you might be a risk to yourself or other people.
Below you can read more about:
The Mental Health Bill will change some aspects of the Mental Health Act when it becomes law. This is expected to happen at some time in 2025.
When the Bill becomes law, the Rethink Advice and Information Service will update all the affected advice and information pages on the website. This might take the service a while because:
- Up to 24 advice and information pages on the website might need to be updated, and
- The Advice Service is a small one that serves the whole of England. In addition to information work, the service provides advice by phone, webchat, and letter.
