Rethink Penzance Support Group
Open to: Carers and People with Mental Illness
Penzance
We meet weekly - on the first three Fridays of the month from 12pm - 2.30pm and from 1pm - 3.30pm on the Wednesday in the last week of the month.
Group Coordinator: Rowena Tollitt
The group offers a friendly, welcoming space for people with lived experience of mental illness and their carers. Information, peer support and signposting will be offered alongside a chance to share experiences, make new friends and try new things. We hope those attending the group may feel less isolated, more informed and able to cope better. The group will encourage the wellbeing of its members. We hope to develop interests as members join but will start with art and crafts, board games and getting to know each other and have a planned trip to a community garden in early 2020. Other activities could be writing and exploring other areas of arts: all ideas are welcome!

We also occasionally organise lunches and invite speakers. Please call for an informal chat or meet up to hear more about us and our activities. We would love to hear from you. The Positive Anxiety Group meets every last Wednesday of the month and started in the spring of 2018. We set up for those with a mental Illness, whether it is anxiety or depression, who do not necessarily have a diagnosis but nevertheless do need support. Members of this group prefer to go out together, visiting areas of interest in the vicinity. We have visited Powderham Castle Craft and Art Exhibition, had a cream tea in Honiton, visited Exeter Quay and Totnes, just to name a few! Please do make contact and come and join us for relaxed and fun peer support.

We are a group that has been established for many years and meet for mutual support and the sharing of information. We are all carers of people with lived experience of mental illness and can offer help and understanding to those in a similar position. We like to fundraise too, whether by holding a collection at Tesco or running a stall at Drayton Fair. We organised a very successful exhibition at Ilminster Art centre in 2018, which aimed to challenge preconceptions surrounding mental illness and highlight the need for support. Our bi-monthly meetings are informal and usually take place in a local café. We welcome all newcomers with open arms.
