The Sheffield Crisis House provides short term support to individuals experiencing acute mental health crisis. The service is accessible to adults aged 18 and above, and has 6 beds with communal areas such as kitchen, lounge, and garden. The service is staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days a week and staff work in partnership with Sheffield Health and Social Care. Individuals can seek emotional support and guidance throughout their crisis and utilise staff to help develop or re-engage with coping strategies, and daily activities. Support is always person-centred and designed to improve the safety and wellbeing of the individual. Referrals to the Crisis House can be made via community mental health teams (CMHTs) and directly from Liaison Psychiatry at the hospital. We do not accept self-referrals, but support is available via the Rethink Emotional Support Helpline. Please see the number below

The intervention includes up to 6 weeks of additional support for individuals that have been discharged from the Crisis House, helping to resolve the causes of the original crisis and implement plans to avoid future crisis. You may be an older person, have a physical or learning disability, long term health condition or substance use problem. If you are struggling to access services or don’t feel you are being listened to, we can advocate on your behalf. We will operate a Waiting List at times and priority will be given to those who have previously been detained under the Mental Health Act and qualify for s117 aftercare

This includes qualifying patients who are placed in hospitals or other secure settings within the Barnsley boundaries, but do not otherwise live in the area. The advocates will work with the clients to ensure that they understand their rights, understand any treatments being discussed and have a say in discussions about their care. If the patient has been assessed as lacking capacity to instruct an advocate, we will use Non-instructed Advocacy to ensure that the client is still at the centre of all care planning and decisions.The service is free to access and is independent from all other services
