Rethink Mental Illness deliver talking therapies and specialist mental health support for individuals residing in Derwentside Immigration Removal Centre. Talking therapies are delivered in line with Step 1 – 2 of the NHS Talking Therapies (formerly IAPT) model and include interventions from PWP’s and Counsellors. In addition we provide specialist support to assist individuals preparing for release, either in the UK or other nations to minimise the impact this process has on their mental health.

Our provision in Derwentside IRC is delivered as a subcontract with Tees, Esk and Wear Valley Foundation Trust and together we provide an integrated and holistic mental health provision. Our partnership with TEWV is part of the Reconnected to Health provision, led by Spectrum CIC.

To access 1:1 support a screening has to have taken place. We routinely screen everyone within 5 days of arrival, however, we will conduct suitability screenings as well if staff refer a patient, and patients can self-refer using translated referral forms. Once this screening is completed, individuals will be referred to the appropriate therapist/staff member.
