Schizophrenia affects 1 in 100 people.
Schizophrenia affects the way you think and behave. You might have hallucinations, disorganised thinking and delusions, or you might become withdrawn and have problems remembering and concentrating. Everyone experiences it differently.
Some people will experience hearing voices, which is a form of hallucination (what’s called an ‘auditory hallucination’).
We know it can be hard to understand what hearing voices might be like. This is why we’ve created this video – to help you experience what’s like to hear voices.
Though public attitudes to mental illness are changing, schizophrenia is still deeply misunderstood.
Schizophrenia does not mean you have a ‘split’ personality, but our research shows 50% of people still believe it does.
It’s important we all understand what schizophrenia is and isn’t, and start to change attitudes. We all need to Rethink Schizophrenia.
