Events and workshops - Planning for the future: Care and support options for your sibling
Do you have a brother or sister affected by mental illness?
Do you worry about the future care of your sibling, for instance as your parents get older or other circumstances change?
During this workshop participants gained knowledge of the options available when planning for the future, so they could think about which ones are right for them and their sibling.
This included looking at:
- Financial options, such as discretionary trusts and Carers Assessments
- Housing options
- Options around your involvement in your sibling's care
By the end of the session we hope participants were able to:
- Identify areas of concern for the future that some siblings may have
- Consider possible current or future options for these areas.
It will involve working in small groups looking at case studies and will be led by experts from the Rethink Mental Illness Advice and Information Service.
You can download information and advice on this topic in our Siblings Network factsheet 'Planning for the future'
