Hallucinating
Overview
The term hallucinating refers to hearing, seeing, or otherwise sensing the presence of things not actually there. When not related to substance abuse, hallucinating can be a symptom of a mental illness. Hallucinations are experienced most commonly in schizophrenia, but can also be found in schizoaffective disorder and bipolar disorder. For more information please see our section on Hearing voices.
