Commissioning us - A Better Alternative
Would you like to know more about providing alternatives to admission services?
We have launched A Better Alternative, a new report into our Alternatives to Admission services.
Since we were formed in 1972, we have wanted to provide a better model of inpatient care. A new model which gave patients and their families a better experience. A model which allowed people to stay in touch with their communities. A model which ensured scarce resources were spent where they counted.
For the last 10 years we have developed a new model of crisis care. We now have recovery houses across England, from Sheffield to Dorset. By helping to avoid acute admission, our services can relieve the pressures on acute wards. They can also help service users reintegrate into the community following an admission.
To us, they are the missing link in the current mental health system and provide a way to improve patient care and experience, and improve cost-effectiveness at a time when the system is under increasing pressure.
Our services have helped the average service user improve across all 10 life domains on the recovery star over the course of a stay.
