Well, after a few letters of application I have finally got an interview for a teaching job. I next have to succeed at the interview, then the CRB check (and hope they don't get told about the 136's) and then I have actually got to do the job, aarrgghh! At the same time as this I am also having some physical health checks with the doctors and hospital, so I could be starting a job with sickness leave after 4 years out of work!

I'm telling myself not to get stressed out, as that is when the voices come back - So I'm also telling myself to keep focussed.

And then there will be the mile walk from the bus stop to the school, (that's if I get the job). Oh dear.

The interview is on Wednesday, and I've got to get the courage up to actually teach a lesson!

Well, the interview is tomorrow and I'm really worried. I had asked my support worker if he would do a reference for me and he had agreed. He's been ringing me up this afternoon asking all sorts of questions because he's in the middle of writing the reference for tomorrow. I haven't disclosed sz, but he thinks he ought to put something down. I have put on my form that my disability is controlled through medication, and I've left it at that.

He even asked me if I had been ill at all over the last two years - well that's why I see him, or so I thought. Do you get a mental health support worker if you're not ill?

I was hoping that he'd be able to say that I turn up on time, that I am smart and dress appropriately for the activity in hand etc. Poor guy, I think that this must be one of the first references he's done for people. I'm trying to see the positive side of asking him for the reference!

I will let you know tomorrow how the interview went.

Funnily my current boss did my reference today for the school job, equally confused!

Ok first thought - what happens when they ask why a mental health worker has given a reference - what will you say?

There is some helpful information on the impact of the Equality Act (2010) on employment at http://www.direct.go...ghts/DG_4001071 with interview specifics at http://www.direct.go...Work/DG_4000219

All best wishes for your interview :)

Yeah, I've got that one sorted, but there was no one else who knows I turn up on time for stuff and that I'm now better - reference from last school will say I had two terms off sick, and that was four years ago.

Hope it goes well for you tomorrow too.

Wow mid, just seen this. Great news that you got an interview - that should be a great ego boost in itself. That'd be my advice, instead of each step feeling like getting closer to the scarey bit, see it as a step further you've made out of your 'comfort zone' and therefore another success.

Will check with interest later to see how it went!

P.s I dont think theyre allowed to ask you about disability until you've been offered the job....(the'equality act changed last year :) http://www.mind.org....e_equality_bill ) but then maybe its differnet when you're working with children - i dont see why.....

Well I have had the interview and now I'm waiting for the phone to ring to see if I have got the job. I think it may be a long afternoon!

But in the meantime, this morning, another school has got in contact via email to ask me for another interview! The school is closer but I really enjoyed this morning.

At least I'll get a second chance if I don't get this one.

Thanks everyone for your comments,

M.

Well, I didn't get the job - so glad I've got a second chance.

The feedback was excellent, just that I was nervous and needed more confidence! It was suggested that I need to get more recent experience. How do I go about getting that if they don't offer me the job!!

Anyway - onwards I go...

Prepare for the next interview,

M.

A great big well done to you. I know you might not have got the actual job but you should be 'well chuffed' with yourself.

Hi Mias, it was "interesting" - the highlight was entering a corridoor, and the door closing and locking behind me.............

Still, they have given me a really big room to work in - gonna get some of the kids to put some art on the walls for me too!

I've got my next interview tomorrow, and it's raining this pm. I'm going to get wet walking to the interview. No buses go the way I need to go.
