I am 61 years old, I have had depression for many years which continues to keep coming and going. It gets me really down, are there any suggestions how to deal with this or how do other people deal with suffering with depression.
My depression started following a breakdown 14 years ago when my husband died of cancer.
any help would really be appreciated.
Thank you
Lorraine

Hi Lorraine, welcome to the site.
Some recent studies have shown that 'mindfulness-based cognitive therapy' is very effective for recurrent depression -
http://www.bemindful.co.uk/mbct/about
"Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) was designed specifically to help people who are prone to recurring depression. It combines mindfulness techniques like meditation, breathing exercises and stretching with elements from cognitive therapy to help break the negative thought patterns that are characteristic of recurrent depression."
Have you tried it? If not, does it sound like it might be something you would try?
All the best,
Chris

Hello there L, a warm welcome to the site

Depression is a monster and to me, you have to fight it every day etc. Do you have a lovely group of friends etc & supportive family etc x dont mean be nosy i just trying to help.
I am sure you are a strong lady and whilst the monster affects you, you can fight back too xx

Hello Lorraine,Oh how sad, I can understand anyone being depressed after such a thing happening. Yes, I too m very sorry for your loss.I am a firm believer That talking to people can help and the funny thing is, talking to people you don't really know too well say on a forum like this can be a big help as you can be yourself but stay anonymous. I do hope this will pass very soon. Please accept my best wishes and a hug.
I live in my own little world. But it's OK, everyone knows me here.
