Mentally ill 'at high risk of being victim of violence'

Mentally ill people are four times more likely to be a victim of violence, according to an international study.

One in four has been attacked in the past year, suggests the Lancet journal.

Researchers looked at 26 studies from developed countries, including five from the UK.

Mental Health charities said, despite public fears, people with mental illness were much more likely to be a victim than a perpetrator.

Many researchers have looked into the issue of disability and violence, but the Lancet study combines their results aiming to provide a more reliable answer.

...and notice the incongruous picture of anonymous handcuffed hands? Is this meant to evoke sympathy for the victims? or something else is hidden in the subtext here?

we are discriminated against thru ignorance and misunderstanding . to be so called different isnt always the best thing to be in our society . there is always someone probably thru their own insecurities or some inner anger taking it out on an innocent member of our community . that is the way sum are hitting out were there is noway of any consequences for there actions like it sum sort of public duty . but as people with our unique experiences we can only be our selves responsible for our actions and to the community we live in not others discrimination . its such a shame we have been misrepresented in the media ! we are not in 99% of the cases of illness violent or hurt ppl normally ourselves its directed at and those who do commit acts of violence would anyway that is how they are made up illness or no illness . jails are full of so called normal ppl with no illness to deal with, wat is their excuse and how do they represent the so called normal ppl !

Some say the majority of the prison population have undiagnosed mental illlness

Remember the thug who terrrorised one estate, guess he'd be called a psychopath, it was before the new mental health act, when he attacked the housing officer the prison said he was mentally ill and shouldn't be there, the psychiatrists didn't want a violent type on the ward so he was just let out

Guess now he'd be on a cto and as he attacked me i have little sympathy, i'll necer forget beging the dr to section me, you don't get in by asking

According to the new DSM there is something wrong with normal people because they lack a condition? ;)
