Some of you may remember from my old posts that I have only recently come off Aripiprazole and Resperidone; been on them for AGES and thought I'd try and see whether I could do without.

Obviously, sods law came into effect. :( I haven't been too well. It did seem to start off all rosy, the coming off all my anti-psychotics, as I still took my anti-depressants. I envisaged that all continuing well, I might then get off Venlafaxine and Mirtazapine too. It was only my CPN gently bringing it to my attention that all was indeed not well, that led us to go and talk with the psych doc.

Not happy to report that have been prescribed anti-psychotics again by the psych doc today. Having read that I have previously been on many different anti-psychotics before, (Haloperidol, Resperidone, Quetiapine, Aripiprazole) the psych doc decided on some obscure one called Promazine? I have rejected Olanzapine due to its weight gaining effects, and rejected Clozapine due to the level of blood testing involved. But after looking up Promazine on Google, I have decided against taking it as it seems to be in the same class as Haloperidol?

I am allergic to Haloperidol. I had a bad reaction in which my neck muscles went into a violent spasm leaving me twisting my neck and head to one side and not being able to move it back again - it was gross and I looked like I belonged in a horror movie. They had to give me an emergency injection to resolve it :o .

What shall I do now?

Has anyone any more info on Promazine?

I'm a bit lost tbh. Any advice welcome.
I don't just embrace insanity - I feel it up, french kiss it, and buy it a drink!

These decisions are so hard. I honestly don't know how anyone decides. No one wants to take powerful meds for anything but I guess sometimes its a case of the worse of two evils. :(I think it is something that you need to discuss with those that love and care for you the most.X

I live in my own little world. But it's OK, everyone knows me here.

im on aripiprazole it suits my needs im not too tired ,no weight gain and can function much better in society . when i av either ran out or forgot to take them which unfortunately happens i feel grt like urself its like someone has given me a new lease of life i go bac on them asap because i dont want to take the risk of relapse .u where on quite a heavy combination of drugs and u know what is suitable for you and ur needs . why does he not just put u back on the dose that u were managing ur life on previous to ur descision to try without. aripiprazole is an expensive drug i dont the reasons y he wouldnt put u back on dose u were previously but i know my gp would like to change my meds to something a little less expensive and my social worker has had to stepped in .

I think it's because I was on high dose of aripiprazole and over the years my body had adjusted to it and I felt okay, not brilliant, not ill. Just below well - so I asked if I could slowly come off them and see how I did. My theory was that it couldn't hurt. But I feel like **** now - but going back on 30mg aripiprazole won't work anymore, can't go higher, that's why they added resperidone. But I don't want to take so many meds - so he suggested try Promazine.

They can give you other meds to take with the promazine to stop you getting dystonia (the twisty neck thing) - I'm on them with flupenthixol for the same reason.
