talks constantly to himself when alone in his room or bath etc, (though cant make out what hes saying) drinks alchol to help him so he says... not harming anyone really so why should we persuade him to take meds??? hope fully there are other ways through this? its so difficult to know what to do for the best i used to think meds was the answer but dont know any more.......? what should we do..

We need a recording of his voice before and after so we can compare and know what we're dealing with here?

was on this web site quite a while ago and then most people were against meds advising us to get him off them and to alternatives, he was doing football then but thats stopped, he likes to go to mindfull classes too, when he gets drunk then he does start swearing and not making sence.. i just sit through and listen just be there...i will check today if its a slur or holding tounge in different place....
and im going to have to force him to GP i try not to keep saying to him you have MH issues too often.. or shall i just be straight to the point ..afraid of him getting stressed more...+ he doesnt talk about it to anyone only when drunk he talks a bit about it......

The people who were against meds ,were on the hole like your brother,,Nobody want,s to take meds but for some of us is our only choise. were can live a %70 life on meds or be as mad as a frog an take none. They are looking for someone or something to blaim for there illness, an meds because of side effects gets the most abuse. To take meds is to admit your ill but sadly some people never except it

Very true, thats why i researched meds, I ask the shrinks if i can use a med i want , an most of the time they say yes. The reason being they got it wrong so many times before ,to the point of near on killing me with bad choise,s . An yes 50mg of a med may be great to one patient , but another may need 200mg for the same illness

eventualy not allowd to leave hospital unless accepted injections which he did as was desperate to get out of ther 1st lot he slept too much 2nd lot we did see some difference for the better though he continued to drink alchol and smoke weed......so in the end we couldnt see difference...
since then he no longer smokes weed but chooses not to take meds.....cant sleep at night often untill 5am morning so cant do things during day...has come to live at family home out of choice he likes the company. have tryed to get him to consider meds or maybe sleeping tablet, then now this with his speech starting he says he will go to GP next week
with this illness very hard to know whats right as no one really knows ...been reading things from "rufas may" and makes you think it can be done but.... well i dont know any more the right path for this..maybe as a family we can encourage him to try the meds again or he may go further and further into his own world ... this talking to yourself do you all do this? when he alone he does it all the time ,,,,could this get worse and happen all the time .....

I think everyone talks to themselves to a certain degree, well I do anyway. I even talk outloud to my brother and he is not with us anymore. But I believe this is different to someone really talking outloud to themself all of the time or when in company or out and about.
Mind you, with people walking about with their mobile phone earpiece in chatting away, no one is really going to notice these days.

But you have been keeping your eye on it, since you mentioned it a little while ago.
I hope the GP will give this some thought. He really hasn't put your mind at rest has he just saying 'keep your eye on it'. Sorry, but it seems a bit of a cop out.
Hopefully you will get some answers here.
You say what would I do. I wouldn't leave it. Possibly go back and say you are very worried or that you would like a second opinion.
Have you looked up this symptom online at all yourself? I know we are not supposed to do that but I do.
Sorry, I don't think I was much help at all.
