About Rethink Mental Illness

Rethink Mental Illness was founded nearly 40 years ago to give a voice to people affected by severe mental illnesses like schizophrenia and today, with over 10,000 members, we remain determined that this voice will be heard. We provide services, campaign, communicate and research on behalf of people affected by mental health issues.

Factsheets

Did you know that there are over 40 different factsheets that you can download for free from our website?

They cover a huge range of topics, including (PDF links):
detention under the Mental Health Act, Work Capability Assessments, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Getting Help

Please note, RethinkTalk is moderated by staff and volunteers who are not health professionals, nor is it moderated 24 hours a day or 7 days a week, so we can't operate as a full-time support service.

If you are feeling down, please contact a crisis support organisation.

Rules of the community

To keep RethinkTalk a safe, supportive place for everyone we have rules of conduct and an area for controversial discussion called The Kitchen (password: kitchen).

Please also avoid posting video clips without written comment or using all-capital letters (looks like shouting!).

In other words, behave online as you would want to be treated offline.

Our Advice and Information Service

Rethink Mental Illness provides free expert advice and information to people with mental health problems and those who care for them, as well as giving help to health professionals, employers and staff. Call 0300 5000 927 or 0207 840 3188, or email advice@rethink.org. The service is available from Monday to Friday 10am – 1pm.

Our Live Webchats

Want to talk to mental health campaigners, advisers, and decions-makers? We host live webchats where you can ask questions of people who might normally be out of reach. Anyone can join in our conversations - and we've spoken with mental health campaigner Rufus May, as well as our discussions with our policy & advice staff on the Mental Health Act.

Take Action!

Do you want to make a difference? Our campaigns make huge strides in improving lives for people affected by mental illness. Recently the Government accepted ALL our calls to give patients & carers a greater say in their care & in the running of the NHS. And it doesn't have to mean lots of work - it can be as easy as sending an email.
