Interactions - benzodiazepines
It is very important that your doctor knows about all the medicines you are taking so that you can avoid problematic interactions with benzodiazapines.
The effect of benzodiazepines to cause sedation or sleepiness can be increased by other medication with a similar effect. This can include among others, certain painkillers, antidepressants, antipsychotic medication and beta-blockers.
This does not necessarily mean that these interactions will happen with everyone or that it is not possible to use these medications together. It is important to make sure your doctor knows about all the medicines you are taking and to follow his or her instructions carefully. The interactions mentioned here are not exhaustive.
Drinking alcohol while taking benzodiazepine medication will make you more sleepy. This is particularly important to bear in mind if you may need to drive or operate machinery. The medication can also increase the effect of alcohol.
