Interactions - benzodiazepines

It is very important that your doctor knows about all the medicines you are taking so that you can avoid problematic interactions with benzodiazapines.
Benzodiazepines can 'interact' with other sleeping drugs and some antidepressants by increasing their sedative effect, although your doctor should know about these.

Some medicines, for example the painkiller co-proxamol, when combined with benzodiazepines can also make you drowsy. This does not necessarily mean the drugs cannot be used together, just that you may need to follow your doctor’s instructions very carefully. You should tell your doctor before starting or stopping these or any other drugs.

Other medications like antibiotics / antivirals can make the effects of benzodiazepines last longer than intended.

Alcohol works as a depressant on the body, and so drinking whilst you are on benzodiazepine medication will increase the sedative effect of the drugs (such as making you drowsier).
