What should I try not to eat?
- Try to cut out foods with lots of sugar, fat or additives in them, like chocolate, sweets, sugary drinks, fried food and ready-meals.
- Grill or bake food rather than frying it.
- Choose low-fat products like semi-skimmed or skimmed milk rather than full-fat.
- Eat fruit if you want something sweet rather than chocolate or sugary sweets. This will help to control any weight gain which some medicines can cause.
- It’s also a good idea to consume less caffeine, present in coffee, normal tea and cola drinks. On average, a cup of coffee contains 100mg, a cup of tea contains 40mg and a glass of cola 35mg. Drinking too much caffeine can give you stronger reactions to your medicines like headaches, stiffness or pain in your stomach. You can easily buy decaffeinated coffee, tea or herbal tea like peppermint or camomile or even liquorice.
- Or try drinking more water instead – we’re supposed to drink 2 litres per day to feel at our best.
