Getting a health-check: What if my GP doesn't provide these checks?

If you have not had one of these checks, ask at your surgery to find out if they do them.
It is a good idea to ask a very specific question, as the term ‘health checks’ can
refer to many different things. So ask your GP if he is going to fulfil the mental health indicators of the quality and outcomes framework of the new GP contract. Say that you would like to know whether you will get a full health-check.

If your GP does not provide health-checks, there are two things you can do. If you don’t want to change GP, you could try to persuade your current GP to start this service. If that doesn’t work, you can find a different GP and transfer surgery.
