Finding a new GP - Yourself
Some GPs may not want to provide these health- checks for people with mental illness. If this is the situation with your GP, it is important to try and find a GP who will give you this service.
- If you know of other GPs in your area who do provide these checks, try to register with them. You do not have to give a reason for wanting to change your GP, though if you’re changing GPs to get a health-check, that is a very good reason.
- If you can, it’s a good idea to get your medical records from your current GP and take them along to the surgery where you want to register. This will make things quicker.
- Do remember that the new practice might refuse to register you if you live outside their area. If a surgery’s list is full, they won’t accept any new patients. So you might not be able to use the first surgery that you try.
