Ivan Lewis, mental health minister, visits local carers group

29 April 2008

Ivan Lewis, Minister for mental health and carers, will be visiting a new mental health carers support group in Bury on 25th April from 7.00pm – 7.30pm.  Mental health charity Rethink will be celebrating the opening of their first carers support group in the North West, Bury Rethink Carers Group, with an informal cheese and wine evening. Also attending will be David Chaytor, MP for Bury North.  The event will be held at Bury Cares Centre, Silver Street, Bury and starts at 6.30pm.

Group founder and Bury resident, Lily Reid MBE says: “I started the group to provide support and advice for people who care for someone with a mental health problem whether they are a partner, mother, father, brother, sister or friend.  Caring for someone can be very difficult and lonely, but it doesn’t have to be. The more people we can reach with that message the better.”

Rethink Bury Cares will meet every fourth Thursday of the month at Bury Carers Centre, Silver Street from 7.00pm - 9.00pm.  Anyone who would like more information can call John Taylor, Bury Rethink Carers Group coordinator on 07875 040 292 or Lily Reid on 0161 763 4401
