Trade press

Trade press publications are magazines that are read by health and social care professionals such as nurses, doctors and social workers.

 

Trade press journalists tend to be a bit more brisk than national journalists. In my experience they will often get straight to the point much more quickly.

Devon

Their readers are usually much better informed about mental health issues than the general public, and the focus is on how mental health is of interest to their own readers. For example, Community Care journalists will want to know what service users and carers think of the support mental health professionals provide.

Devon says:

“My advice to anyone doing an interview for the first time is to remember that a journalist will probably ask you to look back over your life, and sometimes that can be very distressing. I’m used to it now so it doesn’t bother me, but if I was doing it for the first time, it could be difficult.”
