Media - frequently asked questions

I’m a journalist with a deadline to meet – how can you help?

We regularly provide statements and briefings for journalists and arrange interviews with members of staff. We run a media volunteer scheme that puts journalists in touch with service users and carers.

If you have been commissioned to write an article or make a programme and want to interview people with direct experience of mental illness, we will do our best to put you touch with someone who is happy to be interviewed.

I’m a freelance journalist/researcher/student who needs to find out about mental health issues for a pitch/essay/report etc. How can you help?

You are welcome to use the materials and resources available on the Rethink website, which include dedicated media briefings on a range of subjects. While we are happy to help with enquiries, our main priority is to work with staff journalists or people who have been commissioned to make a particular programme or write a specific article.

I’m a service user/carer who is unhappy with the services I’m receiving from my doctor/social services and want to contact the media to publicise my situation. How can you help?

We work closely with our colleagues on the National Advice Service, who provide advice, support and information on a range of issues. We take the lead from their expertise on whether they feel that media coverage of a particular situation would be beneficial. To contact the National Advice Service, please call 0845 456 0455 or email: advice@rethink.org
