Patient choice
From my perspective as a GP, getting the medicines right and supporting people to deal with the physical health consequences of these medicines is crucial – Only the Best is an essential information resource for all patients and family care-givers which makes this challenge easier.
Dr David Shiers, GP Advisor, National Mental Health Development Unit
‘No decision about me without me’ is one of the key principles behind the NHS reforms, promising greater choice and control for patients – choice of treatment, provider, and even the way support is funded.
But patients – and GPs as their advocates – will need advice, information and support to make decisions about their care and treatment.
Rethink Mental Illness is uniquely placed to enable patient choice around mental health through:
- our national helpline, the Rethink Advice and Information Service, which can advise on anything from talking therapies to benefits
- an online guide to personalisation
- a range of DH-accredited factsheets
- comprehensive guides on particular topics, such as 'Only The Best' - our guide to medication
