Training

This course has changed my life and my perspective of services and mental illness. I’m glad that I attended and would recommend the course to anyone who is a carer.

Carers Training and Education Programme group in discussionIn Our 2004 Who Cares survey, carers stressed the importance of having knowledge and information about the cared for person’s condition. One in four carers (25%) felt that they didn’t have any information to help them, and only 63% felt that they had sufficient information.

One carer said: “[The] most important factor… is that facts are needed about the illness. I learnt through research and trial and error. The more carers understand the better it is for user and carer”.

Rethink’s Carers’ Education and Training Programme is an expert carers’ course designed for those caring for people with a severe and enduring mental illness. It aims to convey a sense of optimism and hope while offering education and training based around day-to-day practicalities.

The programme is aimed at providing information about mental illness, available treatments and local resources which may help course participants and the person they care for, and is relevant to Standard Six of the National Service Framework for Mental Health
