Your MP has a lot of power whether s/he is part of the current government (Labour) or in opposition (everyone else).

MPs generally spilt their time between the House of Commons and their constituency (where you live). MPs usually hold 'surgeries' during which time you can go and discuss with them any issue you feel is important.

Who is your MP?

If you know who your MP is - great! If not don't worry - it's really easy to find out.

To find out who your MP is you will need to know your postcode or the area you live in.

Your MP will have two contact addresses - one for their constituency and one at the House of Commons. They will also have a contact number and an email address.

MPs also usually have websites as well so once you have their name you can look them up on the Internet.

Contacting your MP

There are many ways to contact your MP.

  • You can call them in their constituency or at the House of Commons (Parliament)
  • You can write to them at their constituency address or at the House of Commons
