NHS Next Stage Review
On 1 May Rethink held the only national mental health engagement event with Health Minister Lord Darzi to influence the review that he is currently conducting of England’s NHS.
The ‘NHS Next Stage Review’ is set to recommend a great deal of change within the NHS, which may well affect the provision of mental health services. We were delighted to have over 60 service users and carers from across England join us for this event to discuss services in their area and have their views heard by both Lord Darzi and a senior NHS official from their region.
This produced an afternoon of lively and informed debate, the messages from which Rethink has captured to turn into reports for each Strategic Health Authority and the Department of Health to consider. Lord Darzi noted how helpful it was to hear people’s experiences of the NHS first-hand to inform his work, and Rethink’s Chief Executive, Paul Jenkins, has since met with the Minister to ensure that key issues have been well understood and acted upon.
