About the event

At 4,406 feet (1343 metres) Ben Nevis is Britain's highest peak, and rises from sea level two and a half miles south-east of Fort William.
The climb is strenuous but with some training it can be accomplished by most people retaining an average degree of fitness. The path is not too steep although the ascent is stretched out over five hours so certainly requires determination!
The views from the summit of Ben Nevis are awe-inspiring. To the South beyond Glen Nevis lies the rocky ridge of the Mamores, and still further the mystical mountains of Glencoe. The experience of standing on the roof of Britain will provide the memory of a lifetime.
Sandra Hawkins climbed Ben Nevis for Rethink in May. She told us:
"The Ben Nevis Challenge was a truly wonderful experience where I saw one of my dreams come to light and also got a chance to meet some wonderful, funny people. I flew to Glasgow on the Friday where I met my fellow climbers. We took a 3 hour drive through the beautiful sites that Scotland has to offer, stopping at Loch Lomond for ice cream! I was really nervous of the day ahead and went to bed trying not to think about climbing 4,406ft!
The morning arrived all wet and misty. The climb began, Through sun, wind, rain, hail and snow we climbed. I marched, walked, stumbled and pulled myself higher into the clouds. It was harder than I imagined and at one point I didn't think I could go any further but talking to a fellow climber who was climbing for his one year old son spurred me on. And there it was - the summit waiting for us! My legs shook with weariness but I was overcome by joy.
I've already vowed it won't be long before I visit Ben Nevis again and am looking forward to the next challenge!"
