Fundraisers of the Month August: Our Ben Nevis Team

10 September 2011

About the event

CACT, Ben Nevis 2011

On September 10th twenty five people will stand on top of Ben Nevis.  Perhaps that isn’t all that unusual, but this intrepid group will be doing it in front of a cheering crowd of thousands.
Rethink Mental Illness is proud of its link with Charlton Athletic Community Trust – a brilliant organisation affiliated with the famous south London football club.

The Trust works with mental health services and community groups to support young people who have been affected by psychosis to gain confidence, develop a healthy lifestyle, improve their communications skills and to gain valuable qualifications.  As well as supporting their mental health needs, they take part in a wide range of activities from sport to CV writing and employment skills.
Many of these young people are in the later stages of recovery and through their hard work have made tremendous progress.  Twelve of these young people with the support of staff and volunteers from the Trust will be lacing up their hiking boots and striking out for the summit of Ben Nevis with the goal of achieving a personal challenge and raising urgently needed money for a vital cause.
We’re so happy to be affiliated with the project. The chance to bring mental health issues further into the public eye while supporting those young people involved in the project is one not to be missed!

The push for the summit is timed so that they will reach the top and have the moment screened in front of a football audience of thousands as Charlton take on Scunthorpe at home.
Proceeds will be split between Rethink and Charlton Athletic Community Trust.  To read more and donate to this fantastic initiative please visit www.justgiving.com/cactbennevis

Joining the Charlton Athletic Community Trust bunch will be Kirsty Mason, who joins this giant Rethink Mental Illness team on the challenge! She has done a fantastic job of promoting the cause, fundraising, and just being an all-round star!
