Olly Figgis' Hike!

Olly Figgis

Rethink supporter Olly Figgis is walking 210 miles along the South West Coast Path from Start Point to Land’s End to raise vital funds for Rethink. Leaving on 1st September, Olly will be joined on his route by his black & white border collie, “Mawenzi”, whose name means ‘companion’ in Swahili.

Olly said “I have chosen to support Rethink by walking part of the South West Coast Path because suffering from mental illness is awful, yet the professionals who helped me to recover my health were wonderfully sympathetic, supportive and knowledgeable people who inspired me to raise some money for ‘Rethink’.  I wanted to undertake a considerable physical challenge which would also stimulate my mind.  The rugged terrain, drama, history and sheer beauty of the South West Coast Path fulfill these criteria perfectly.  It promises to be a great adventure, which I hope will enhance my limited camping and “Ray Mears” survival skills, as well as raising a lot of money for such a worthy cause!”

Terry Cuba 5"For me Rethink has been one of the most influential organisations in helping to change attitudes and enlightening government. I wanted to raise funds to enable Rethink to continue its fantastic work.  The 400km cycle across Cuba was truly fantastic experience… For any one wanting to raise money for Rethink this is a great way of doing it, not only do you bring money in for the organisation, you can experience some thing very special...

Terry Cuba 6It's a truly amazing country with lots to see. The people are incredible friendly and the country side is very beautiful with mountains and lush green rolling hills. Cycling is a great way to see the country. Everywhere we went people were happy to see us and keen to talk, especially the Cuban children!”

Verena Moult

Windswept dandelion"My story is very simple...a friend of mine loves to write poetry and had compiled a series of short poems one for each month of the year. I offered to illustrate them for fun, I thought it would broaden my experiences since I am an amateur who loves to paint!

Then we both had an idea! why don't we print our little book and try to sell it to raise funds for Rethink? We got a special price from the printer and soon enough there they were. We sold them to relatives, friends, hospitals, churches and finally made £115 for Rethink...it was well worth the effort!" Do it yourself? Get Fundraising ideas
