Carers Week 2007
The charity Carers Week is the main facilitator behind the yearly event that aims to put carers into the spotlight. Again this year Rethink was one of Carers Week's seven national partners, which together with 1000+ local partners drew attention to important aspects of caring.
Highlights from this year's Carers Week
The overall theme of Carers Week 2007 was 'My life as a carer...' which focused on essential issues of caring such as relationships, careers and health. Local events and parliamentary activities took place all over the country throughout the week beginning 11th June 2007. Here's just a few examples of what went on.
Gordon Brown hosted a reception organised by Carers Week
Rethink staff and trustees went to Number 11 Downing Street on 13 June 2007 for a reception to mark Carers Week. Gordon Brown promised at the event to do more to help carers and urged Rethink and the other partners in Carers Week to keep pushing him and the new Government for more action. We will!
The Commission for Social Care Inspection added it's support to Carers Week
Paul Snell, CSCI's Chief Inspector said: "Carers tell us that they receive support only when they reach crisis point, and that what they need most is flexible respite care and sustained support. Initiatives such as Carers Week helps to give these issues a high profile."
