Improve your skills in mental health and substance misuse

  • Are you unsure about working with people with dual diagnosis?
  • Do you have the right skills and knowledge?
  • Do you know all the relevant partner agencies in your area?
  • Do you struggle to provide good information to family and friends?

Everybody working within dual diagnosis of mental health and substance misuse agrees on the importance of holistic working. We cannot offer realistic treatment unless people have a roof over their heads, money to live on and meaningful things to do. However, in practice this can be difficult to achieve. As part of a joint initiative, Rethink, Turning Point and Adfam have worked together to create a series of resources to help build awareness, develop good practice and encourage partnership working for those interested in any aspect of working with dual diagnosis. The initiative comprises a Toolkit for practitioners, a leaflet for families, friends and carers and a Networking Tool consisting of a poster and booklet offering suggestions about mapping services and featuring contact details for some relevant national organisations.
