I'm 29 and the big sister / sometime mum of a 23 year old who's been diagnosed with a whole selection of serious mental illnesses over the last 7 years.

My little sister has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and has had psychotic episodes. There doesn't seem to have been a full consensus despite the length of time.

I am a designer and gardener.

In my last post I told you it would get better - things had reached their worst for me and my sister following her latest hospital admission. I felt like it was important to be honest about how bad things could be but nothing stays the same for long, and thankfully we're all coming around.

Our blogger was going through a period of stress after her sister’s attempted suicide, and has since had time to recover, but she felt that sharing her feelings at the time and explaining in her next post how things have now improved might help others dealing with the same thing.

Easter 2011. My sister's just arrived at a halfway house in a town we'd generally consider without prospects. It's a long way from here. I read her message as I set off home and am in tears by the time I reach the first set of lights.
